Something to consider.... there have been a couple of decades of increasingly stringent emissions standards, resulting in the levels of airborne pollution reducing over time, so if their hypothesis that airborne pollution is responsible for an increase in heart attacks, then you should be able to see a drop in the rate of heart attacks as the levels of NO and PM10 pollution decrease.
This is for UK, but should be similar for other Western European locations: https://pic8.co/sh/dXDxvK.png
Given that data, there should be a noticeable down trend in heart attacks since the mid '90s when air pollution levels peaked.
TL:DR; The hypothesis that pollution is causing the current sudden increase in heart attacks is not supported by reality.
Makes sense anon.
