The US tests 52x what the top 20 populated countries of Africa, per Capita. Their median life expectancy is 61/64 males/females which means they are below 82% of COVID fatalities in the US.
And to the last point, proximity to the equator. In northern longitudes dark skinned people develop vit d deficiency and experience poor flu/COVID outcomes.
