They are looking at CDC data and extrapolating the meaning of what the data shows. CDC is warning thru the data. Not sure that an actual press release is issued. That's my understanding.

I am not sure if extrapolation is valid, certainly it is being done blindly or with little trend data. That said the death trend seems to be chugging upward and we can only speculate about an inflection point in the trend.
