Don't forget that Saudi Arabia hates Iran too. They've been in a cold war for a while. With "allies" like Israel and Saudi Arabia, a war with Iran (and Syria) is pretty hard to avoid.
Saudi Arabia has always confused me as to why the US is allied with them. They resemble most Arabic countries in the region, then I remembered that they are friend with Israel...
The Saudis are our friend so we can have oil. They're one of the worst Islamic countries, but they can punish us by raising gas prices. Israel and the Saudis are friends because they hate Iran. If we do go to war and defeat Iran, we could see their relationship deteriorate.
Doesn't the us have it's own oil? I always hated the dependency on one of the most turbulent areas in the world.
Edit: it does, but the import is for long term supply contracts to refineries, so money is why lol
