The death rate in Africa was very low, but the death rate of black Americans was twice as high as the death rate of white Americans. It's more likely that it wasn't the genes that mattered, but the vitamin D level in the blood. There are many studies showing that the vitamin D level was the most important factor for the outcome of C19. Black Americans are known for having a very low vitamin D level.
It absolutely was black vitamin D levels. They didn't evolve to live in Northern climates. They need way more sunlight to make the same amount of D as a white person. They are almost always vitamin D deficient in the US, except for the intelligent ones that take pills for it.
Vitamin D levels and the average life expectancy in Africa is 20, and none of those countries has the money or resources to administer 1 billion tests like the US has.
