The hike, if mandatory; would have had more than the rainbow flag representing. The battalion flag, Navy and US flag should be evident but the chances are this was not as "mandatory" as told. By this I mean it is not command sponsored. Perhaps the Battalion Commander supported this hike but not the base commander? Or others among COC?

it is "mandatory fun," and cannot be gotten out of. some commands FORCE participation.

I would have refused and accepted the writeup, gotten a copy of it, and put in on my wall in a nice frame.

This is how we know the purge was successful. This shit is allowed to happen by the enlisted.

Understood; what I said, if it was command (Navy) sponsored, the proper flags would have been represented. Active duty personnel are not forced to participation, they are duty bound to follow the orders of their chain of command. Now if their spouses, like the one who sent this photo in to the journalist who posted the pictures; was not happy for having to attend a function set up for the familes, public outcry would not be the right way to handle the issue. There are avenues for family members to pursue, to handle discourse and perhaps it would have served this person better to go that course instead of posting about mandatory fun. Active duty is 24/7, 365/yr, they should thank God they are hiking and not dodging bullets.
