between ranchers there are two industries, The meat processors and the trucking handling transportation. The meat processors are the part of the industry which has become controlled by only a few companies. So they have great power in setting the price farmers can get for cow meat, and the price retailers buy it. Also transportation of the entire thing is done by trucks (I suspect) which has all kinds of problems right now. And post slaughter of the cows, refrigeration trucks are needed, not just any kind of truck. Which i'm sure complicates things further.
