Language is imprecise, and jumping in about the etymology of words because you have issues with the politics they push in something that's only vaguely related is annoying. It's akin to people demanding you conform to their pronoun definitions. Language is imprecise, sometimes you have to let things slide instead of getting triggered.
What I'm telling you is that you pushed (intentionally or accidentally) the crux of a significant point of subversion and you're now telling me it doesn't actually matter.
It does matter. Leftist subversion of language is a significant propaganda tool. It's why redefinition is so important to them. In a generation it's how it always was. In a generation Jew suddenly became Tribe of Judah.
The issue isn't that I nit picked you. The issue is you believe it is nit picking. Much of 1984 is spent explaining the significance.
Control of language is literally mind control. Mind control isn't nit picking.
