It's already happening. The district I attended had 5 elementary schools when I was there. They are down to 1. I've been told that it's probably a little fuller than it needs to be, but nothing that can't be managed.
It's strange to think about - there were 12 classes, 2 of each grade plus a couple of specials. Each class probably had 20-25 students plus maybe 20 more for the special classes. All of the others were similar. Now the county is a bedroom/internet community full of remotes and seniors because no one else can afford to (or wants to) live there.
