I wonder what kind of degree one must have to be a qualified shit inspector?

Technician doing the actual testing probably has a 2 year cert in biology - maybe. Some testing may be done by the treatment plant operators, so no degree there. For higher precision/esoteric testing, lab certification is likely required.
