It goes deeper than that, its about demoralizing people so that right is wrong, but right can be right depending on who it is. It's like a fueled up kill the messenger and authority politics
It's the exact same run-up to the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s. The partisans on both sides were so polarized, they did tit-for-tat bullshit in the political arena for a few years and then wound up shooting at each other over perceived political insults that could no longer be ameliorated with mere words.
Then they got a vacation from WW2 ... by the way, Germany helped the political right in Spain and the Communists helped the political left. It was a bit of a proxy war between the bolshies and the Nazis, of sort, and a weapons testing ground for both sides.
I've got my extra-large, double-buttered tub of salty popcorn ready for this, though. I'll be watching it in full UHD 4k colour glory.
