Once upon a time (in the 80s), I moved to a democratic country that was leaning very socialist. The railroads, telephone, electric system, and other things were owned by the government, and all the employees were on govt salary. A more socialist leaning party got into power and had big dreams of more social welfare schemes. So over the next few years they sold off the railways, telephone, and electric systems to private investment groups. Of course the first thing they did was lay off 1000s of unproductive employees so they could try to make a profit. So naturally, all those laid off workers went on unemployment and welfare roles. Then the govt had to raises taxes to pay for all the unemployed. That's what I think the bloated US bureaucracys are, pretend employment for dem/socialist voters. They will keep voting dems in to ensure govt grows guaranteeing their employment.
