I got a quote from our local Generac dealer for our 1400 sqft house. 14K including installation. I ended up buying a dual fuel (LPG/gasoline) generator for $650, plus a manual transfer switch for for $400. I've only had to use it once for about 8 hours when we lost power. But I can also put it into my pickup for remote work, or going camping with the trailer.
i know the set up your describing. your genny would be a roll-away and not permanent, correct? i see it in a lot of houses and it makes perfect sense if you just want some peace of mind know you can hook up a generator if needed, which hopefully isn't all the time or else a more permanent system would make sense.
either way my point remains. the cost here is beyond absurd
I agree, for $300K you should be able to get a generator to supply at least a small town, not just some politicians house.
