Is anyone surprised? The USSR committed an intentional genocide on Ukraine in 1932-33, and American journalists helped Stalin cover it up. When the Wehrmacht took Ukraine in '41, the people saw them as liberators, and greeted them with flowers. The Russians came back a few years later, but just because they were silent didn't mean they all forgot.
