The conflict is about NATO and US wanting to wipe Russia off the face of the planet, and the only thing that's stopping them is Russia's nuclear weapons. So NATO has been expanding eastward towards Russia and putting its ever more sophisticated anti-missile missiles. Once NATO can intercept Russia's missiles Russia is a sitting duck. NATO has turned Ukraine into a defacto NATO state with NATO arming and training Ukraine's troops. Russia allowed it to go on far too long and is finally putting a stop to it after NATO and US refused to negotiate.
