Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of the private military company "Wagner", shared his opinion on the progress of combat operations in Bakhmut on May 18, 2023.

"PMC 'Wagner' units have advanced significantly and reduced the distance to their targets to 400 meters. As a result, they already control an area of 189,000 square meters," Prigozhin said.

He said the enemy's resistance is weakening and now there is less than one square kilometer under their control. This indicates that the Vagner PMC units are close to full control of Bakhmut.

Prigozhin is confident:

"Most likely, holding Bakhmut is a key element of the counterattack. We can see that the enemy's flanks continue to crumble, and this trend continues."

His statement points to the strategic importance of Bakhmut in the current conflict. Taking possession of this area will allow the Wagner PMC forces to significantly strengthen their positions and continue active operations.

If Wagner controls 189,000 square meters, and their opponent controls nearly 1,000,000 square meters, does that really mean they're winning?
