I found that pack rats are attracted to human piss. Over the days I stayed there I got lazy with my watering the plants if you will and instead of walking far away I just walk out about 5 ft out and let it rip. I led it right to my camper. I did have a mousetrap under the hood which clipped it. Of course that wouldn't kill it but knocked it around a little bit so it wasn't spazzing out trying to chew shit. I couldn't dislodge it from the underside. So I had to drive around at 11:30 at night trying to shake the fucker out of my engine compartment. Finally behind a lit building I was able to stab the bastard with a fire poker. I didn't kill it but I probably wounded it enough that it dropped out and limped away.

I wonder if I should buy bear spray and if it happens again just shoot the fucker in the face with bear spray. Do you think that would have an adverse effect on any of the engine components?

Hadn’t thought about that approach! Not sure if it would effect things, don’t see how or why it would? Might upset your mechanic someday though. Might be a good idea to spray a patch of ground that you park over to keep ‘em away?

Interesting about the piss. I’ll keep that in mind. Fuk’rs ain’t so cute when you realize how they can totally fuk your day up. Maybe some baited live traps off to the side where you piss?

I usually use a piss bottle but for some reason I didn't during my stay up there. I don't think bear spray stays active that long, does it? I don't know, I've never really used it. I don't think it really works, although maybe it does. Never had to deal with being attacked by a bear even in bear country.

I used to bait my traps but then I found that all it does is bring the fuckers, whether it's mice or rats to my camper. Now I just set them up as a hand slap for being curious. I usually line the ground next to the inside of my tires with them unbaited. If they're curious they're going to walk up anyway and the trap line is too long for them to avoid hitting one and then in their trying to get away they hit another one.

Yeah, I got to thinking later there that baited traps would most likely only attract the destructive little bastards. They say satchels of dog hair placed around a garden will keep deer away, don’t know about meeces and horkers. They’re such great escape artists I doubt they worry about dogs so much.

Outside of miniature land mines I can’t think of anything to keep them away.
