The dude who fell in the hole apparently had 30 years of experience, had equipment and radio, and was with friends, but got unlucky and the mountain humbled him quickly. It's been 5 minutes since he got buried before the rescue, the panic probably didn't set in just yet.
I have a friend who was in a head-on with a truck. He had to get cut out of his vehicle. He had multiple compound fractures. The EMTs claim he was totally chill and told them if they could just get him out of the vehicle he'd be alright, and they were taken aback by how calm he was. My friend doesn't remember any of it. It's shock. Snowboarder guy is probably in shock, and also low on oxygen.
