Not just quickly as you alluded to. That pressure is enough to ignite. I was reading that the folks in the sub would have been vaporized in a millisecond at temperatures that were on par with that of the sun's surface. I'm curious if there is anything remaining.

Yep, that's why I think an engine cylinder is a good analogy to what happened in the sub. The near instantaneous change in pressure would have ignited everything and everyone inside.

Crazy that it happens so fast your nervous system doesn't have time for it to register.
