I’ve been hearing some first and second hand accounts of what is happening from Ed Dowd. He also says the real death toll is around 1000–1500.

It makes sense when you see that line of torched cars on the waterfront. People had to stop, run from their vehicles and swim out into the ocean to escape the searing heat. Anyone who wasn’t close enough to the water would have been burned alive as they tried to run away. That’s most of the town.
