Years into the future they will claim some area as a mass grave. No investigation of the site will be allowed and it will be illegal to question the figures. They will cover the site in a layer of large rocks to prevent ground penetrating radar surveys.

In fairness I’d say there are a few mass graves out east cos of this virus. When it started in Wuhan the Chinese claimed they built a hospital in 6 days to deal with it. You can dig a pretty big hole in 6 days!

The homeless is the other glaring exception to the rule. They’re not exactly pictures of health at the best of times so even a bad flu season should disproportionately affect them. But instead we only have the epidemic of octogenarians succumbing to respiratory infections, which is what octogenarians tend to do. But when you class all the respiratory infections as one thing the figures can look quite daunting. In the before times someone that died at 89 was said to have died of old age, we didn’t really split hairs about what specific ailment their diminished immune system allowed to actually finish them off because it didn’t really matter, something was going to get them due to their advanced years anyway.

Corona is a extremely niche, first world problem. It only kills people who are old, obese, diabetic, and have hypertension. Africa doesn't have those problems.

Flu comes in cycles some years deadlier than others. The 2 or 3 before covid were mild strains so, in the developed countris atleast, we had a fair few vunerable people living on borrowed time. That's why nursing homes were hit noticably. You could say the same for people with underlying conditions. In the third world I expect flu is not such a big thing and there are other non seasonal issues that take out the old and vunerable.

Yeah I noticed that too. No body mountains or body bonfires or abandoned corpses strewn across boulevards willy nilly. Or willy nilly to be seen anywhere. No people running around arms akimbo. NO dogs feeding off infant corpses in hotels. What gives?

A pandemic can quite obviously exist without piles of dead bodies. A very deadly pandemic that requires draconian laws and restrictions on civil liberties in order to contain it does require at least some excess death in order to justify. The Spanish flu killed 50 million globally from a population of under 2 billion. A global death toll of 2.5 million from a population of nearly 8 billion does not justify the reactions we have witnessed.
