Some people do that on purpose too. It defeats the entire point of a handshake. The point is to make people like you by treating them as an equal. If you turn it into a competition we all just know that you are a dick. That's the second point of a handshake, to know if someone can be your peer or not. There are two ways to fail. Whether or not they have no chance of measuring up to being your peer because they can't even grip a hand (deadfish), or they turn everything into a competition and you don't want them to be your peer anyway because in every minor thing they are adversarial rather than friendly.
