Which way does the causal connection go? Does eating hot dogs make one poor, and thereby shortens their life? Perhaps poor people eat hot dogs because they can't afford a steak. They also tend to smoke, drink, and therefore don't live as long as rich people. It's a mystery to everybody. We may never know.
