There's a kind of learning that is based on acquiring bits of data, like a computer. Most people mistake it for intelligence. A person can be quite stupid, but if they have a good memory, they can deceive others into thinking their are smart. They can learn six languages, for example. This is Jeopardy-level intelligence.
There a higher kind of intelligence that is based on learning new things, and problem solving. This is a kind of mid-level intelligence. Those who have it are good at fixing things or solving puzzles, but they have little imagination. They do well in engineering, medical school.
The highest type of intelligence applies analytical reasoning to abstract concepts. This is the intelligence that innovates new ideas, new paradigms. This is the "think outside the box" kind of intelligence. It solves problems that nobody even knew existed. It's the only true intelligence, in my opinion -- the first two levels merely simulate intelligence.
It’s how I manage to invent solutions to impossible problems, crossing every data point to every concept. It’s kind of fun really.
