Back in the 50s when male/female relationships were such that we peaked as a society... Women used to often make the first move. Like everything context is KEY! Women didn't ask men out because it was taboo, what did happen is you had women throwing themselves at men with offers to cook meals, bake treats, come over and help with X or Y, ask men if they wanted company while they ate lunch.
Back then women almost forced themselves into your life, then waited for you to ask them out.
