I think that's how the first srs came to be done.
Surgeon: "Good news, Miss Johnson. We were able to stop the bleeding and save your life." "That's Mr. Johnson." Surgeon: "In that case, I have some bad news for you, bud."
Given that my stone was blocking that particular area a shot to the neck or face would have been more likely in this case. I am not an expert in physics though, flying off at 3000 rpms could have ripped my stuff off... Scary
A friend got hit in the eyebrow by "a sharp rock" while mowing the lawn. A few hours later, he was in the hospital with a swollen half a head. (swollen on one side, not half his head missing and the other...nevermind). The x-ray showed a wire, like you close a loaf of bread with, only like 2 gauges thicker, lodged in that skull socket behind your eyeball. It was a skillful operation and he fully recovered, but you never know. You just got lucky. That hunk of steel could have killed you.
Could have, didn't, thank God. Every moment could be your last, it's just usually more subtle than this.
