Memes are weapons of consensus. They are used in echo chambers to reinforce biases, strengthen the solidarity against those who oppose the memes and ultimately turn people into non-thinkers as they now just post bias-approved memes instead of having critical discussion and alternative points of view on the prevailing wind of the topic.
I've only posted a few dozen memes, most all of it the humorous stuff, here in 2+ years. Memes are not my thing. I look at most of what others post and tend to agree with you on this observation. There have been some excellent memes posted that will put normies into paradygm changing deep thought and reflection, those are the best memes.
