my experience isn't extensive. The father of a parent couple I'm friends with is 2nd generation Croatian living in the USA who visited Croatia to see his family recently with his wife and kid. He's the one who punched a cop in the face and got off with a day in jail. He himself has drinking issues when he's there so I suppose he's just flocking to his kind which might make it look like theres more drinking going on over there than there really is when the wife tells me how things went over there. She was saying there was so much drinking going on over there the school system needed to raise the kids, but I'm not totally sure the context here because she was able to send her kid to a catholic school for pretty cheap monthly. She was talking about either socialism or communism over there. But she also said while they were there, someone tried to host a gay pride parade and all the faggots got stomped and beaten up by the locals with extreme prejudice, so that's cool. Perhaps she cant fully understand what's happening over there because she doesn't speak Croatian, and I don't because I'm getting random info from her experience/perspective.
I can tell you that she's full of crap. If she married an alcoholic, that's on her.
Croatia has single handedly crushed Yugoslavian communist regime in the war during the 90s, so there is no more communism or socialism. Read my comments in this post if you want to know were it went wrong.
Alcoholism is rare in Croatia since you have to work if you want to eat, there is no welfare payments.
Also this post is about it having the lowest rate of crime, violence and vandalism in Europe, do you think that a claim that everyone is an alcoholic still makes sense?

I made my comment because it was quickly making my friend look very ignorant. Which she might be, she was worried about her horror-scope warning her not to go visit family in Croatia. She visited for several months but cant speak the language so she was just living in an awkward hell of her own making. Her inlaws only spoke Croatian and her husband ran off for a month with his buddies to go fishing. The inlaws used a translation app only when they wanted to insult her, apparently.
Anyways, she went on about communism and stuff but she might have really old or corrupted data she's pulling from. Having a Croatian husband and visiting the country doesnt make one an expert. Perhaps going and visiting a dysfunctional family that was rude to her really skewed her perspective.

that's badass, I can respect that.
Well that's a really horrible situation he left her in. Can't blame her for developing a bad opinion, after that anyone would be traumatized. Him and his family sound like trashy bastards TBH.
