My elementary school had us always moving during gym class. We did have one fat girl but she sort of tried.
Even though I am not doing it anymore my father was a career soldier so I played ice hockey in winter and soccer in summer. Sometimes sprinting, baseball and wrestling.
I remember him being so proud when at 12 I won a wrestling competition and he and mother were there. Then I did 4 way relay 200m dash and was team captain and we won. He was very proud of my athletics and encouraged it. He also made sure that we all did exercise routinely. My sister would mostly do workouts with mother and me my father and brother would do jogs, push-ups, pull-ups and outdoor activities like hunting or camping.
I never really shared moments of manliness with my father. He was never really home. He got married because that's what you did. He was either off flying his Air Force airplanes or he was at work all week. Picked a job at the prime of our youth that needed a 3-hour commute so he would just stay up there all week and only came home on the weekends. So we never really knew who a dad was. He'd come home and my mom and him would fight because she was alone and only hanging out with the one or two friends she had and her children. So they would always battle and he was always pissed and we were like you're evil and it was just a mess.
We did occasionally have campouts and they were fun but these only happened once every couple of years.
My brother and his boy go camping at least once a month. And he's heavily involved in boy scouts so that's good. At least my brother's there. I don't have kids so I miss out on all that stuff but that is what it is.
