22 confirmed kills. That's an extraordinary accomplishment. He was considered in the top 10 German pilots active in WW1.
Only of pilots that survived. He did not qualify for the Pour Le Merit, but rather whined and pestered until he got one at wars end. He did fly a D VIIF, the top combat fighter, which certainly helped his record. The likes of Boelcke, Voss, Lothar v Richtofen were superior men, and leaders.
