Certainly possible that a Taliban bomber got this shit and rigged it up for this... totally random ambush. US forces aren't really clashing with the Taliban, right? They're kind of just ushering people into the airport while the Taliban takes over the rest of the city/country.
But I wouldn't put it passed these motherfuckers to do something like have 12 US servicemen murdered in a staged ambush, in order to justify further intervention and commitment of our resources. We've seen worse than this in history, such as the USS Liberty mass murder.
