Yes and no. I live here. The mask thing was way before covid. But now it's taken to the extreme. People walk around, alone, outside or in a car with a mask on. It's second nature to them sadly. As for the "vaccine". Most of the older generation drank that Kool aid. The younger ones, not so much. All that being said Japan will definitely reinstate a state of emergency if there is a major uptick in cases. But even with that a lock down isn't really enforceable for travel of people (that's unconstitutional here). They can force restaurants/bars to close early and not serve alcohol though. The population here are lemmings and will listen to what ever the government says unfortunately when it comes to these states of emergencies.
