I appreciate the sentiment, but there is no way the majority of the population supports this. The majority are oblivious and still following whatever narrative the main stream media drip feeds them.
That's not to say that the wind can't shift and cause the mob majority to see the light, but right now >50% of the population support even more totalitarian measures than the government has implemented. They've lost sight of the big picture and what is really important, and are happy to give away their rights for perceived safety/security.
People look around their social network and think it's representative of the entire country. I'm sure there are plenty of areas where 90% of the population supports this, but there are also plenty of areas where 90% of the population think anyone who is anti-vax is anti-science and clearly putting their family in danger. Just like liberal/conservative, democrat/republican, it often comes down to the Rural/Urban divide.
