They didn’t ignore this in Canada. The prime minister abused emergency powers to stamp out the protests like a South American dictator. In the meantime, both the federal and provincial governments backed off on a lot of things and they’ve made no major moves forward since.
Since then there have also been harsh legal penalties added for many specific behaviours seen in the protests, like blocking streets, unusual noise, etc. One province even made it a fineable offence to loiter on a highway overpass. Many of these things were already fineable, but the penalties now are much harsher.
The trucker protest scared the crap out of the people in power because it was effective.
