In Germany, there were protests in numerous cities against the government's energy policy. With a remarkable trick, many major media ensure that this does not reach the consciousness of the people in this country. The possible reason: If honest and fair reports were given, many people would probably get the idea of joining these demonstrations. The political-media complex obviously wants to prevent this at all costs. And reaches for it deeply into the trick box.
"Around 7500 people took to the streets in 39 locations in Brandenburg on Monday evening because of the energy crisis, the Ukraine war and the Corona requirements," writes the news agency dpa, which is loyal to the government. At the same time, in another report, it reports, "More than 18,000 people took part in demonstrations in Thuringia against the high cost of energy, inflation and the war in Ukraine." And, "About 12,000 people took to the streets in Saxony-Anhalt on Monday against high prices, the Ukraine war and the federal government's energy policy." In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, more than 10,000 were on the streets, according to RND.
I just found the reports by chance while searching for other articles. They are well hidden.
And now the trick: I didn't see a summarizing dpa report - only the individual reports from each federal state. The effect: it's only a regional news item, the numbers are less impressive, and the reports fizzle out. Journalistic duty, on the other hand, would be to produce an overall report. For example: "Tens of thousands on the streets in several federal states". The fact that the dpa, as the leading medium from which the other media draw, does not do this is manipulation (or alternatively stupidity on my part to find such a dpa report - in which case I am very grateful for tips and correct it here accordingly). If you enter the search words "Germany" and "protests" in "Google News", you get the following result:

In its summary, the Süddeutsche dated the protests back a week. So that no one notices a connection?
The MDR made a summary - but put the individual demonstrations together. The total number of demonstrators is not mentioned. Even more: there is not a single number on the summary page. You have to go into the individual articles and then count everything up yourself to get an overview. That, too, is manipulative.
The Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND), whose co-owners include the SPD, headlines "thousands" of demonstrators. Yet just adding up the above individual reports gives almost 50,000. RND not only conceals this total number from its readers in dozens of newspapers - not even the individual numbers are listed in full. What a shell game!
It may be that individual media outlets fulfilled their journalistic duty and published summary reports with the numbers. But the majority of casual news readers and TV viewers will hardly know that tens of thousands were on the streets. The tactic is clever: On the one hand, you can say - "what do you want, we did report", on the other hand, the coverage was completely defused by the "dissection".
Not to mention that organizers report many more demonstrators than are mentioned in the hidden reports: Imagine what the reaction in the media would be if these had been "protests against the right" or for "gender justice."
In my eyes, the current demonstrations are just a foretaste of what we will face in the fall and winter, when the devastating consequences of green policies will hit broad sections of the population ever more dramatically. As important and right as democratic protest is, it would be unattractive if excesses were to occur in the process. The greater the desperation of people, for example because of loss of livelihood, the greater the danger of such excesses. They would also make it easier for the government to push through its "framing." That is, the defamation of peaceful protest - one of the most important fundamental rights in a democracy - as "extremist."
Autumn and winter threaten to be cold in the homes, but hot on the streets. If it remains peaceful and democratic, this is a great opportunity for our country. What is frightening, however, is that both - really - extremist forces and the government are likely to have an interest in escalation for completely different reasons.
This makes it all the more important for citizens to observe the democratic rules of the game at rallies, and to distance themselves from those who want to cook up a murky brew. Judging by the fact that there was no mention of incidents in the media reports, this worked pleasingly well this Monday.
