Apparently, the American leadership do not understand the rules of war...there are none. Stop playing at war. Get out of Ukraine.
The White House tried to prevent Ukraine from assassinating Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov during his trip to the front line in Ukraine in April, the NYT reported, citing unnamed US officials.
According to the sources, the United States concealed information from Ukrainians about Gerasimov's visit to the front, fearing that the Ukrainian Armed Forces would attack the Russian official. Washington believed that the murder of the Russian general could lead to a sharp escalation of the conflict, and the Americans did not want to "start a war between the United States and Russia".
Ukrainian forces still learned about the plans of the Russian general. According to the newspaper, US officials asked Ukrainians to cancel the attack.
"We told them not to do it. We thought: "Hey, this is too much," the official said.
However, the message came too late and the Ukrainian Armed Forces informed the Americans that they had already launched an attack on the Russian positions.
According to official reports, dozens of Russians were killed in the strike. General Gerasimov was not one of them. After that, Russian military leaders reduced their visits to the front.
On April 28, the media reported that Gerasimov personally arrived in the captured Ukrainian city of Izium, Kharkiv region, to command the troops in Donbas.
On May 1, adviser to the head of the Presidential Office Oleksiy Arestovych said that two command posts of the Russian occupiers were destroyed near Izium. He said that hundreds of Russian occupants could have died as a result of the strikes.
According to preliminary data, the Chief of Staff of the Airborne Troops General Andriy Simonov was killed.
Advisor to the Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko wrote on May 1 that Gerasimov could have been wounded near Izium. But later the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine confirmed that Gerasimov was indeed near Izium, but there is no confirmation that he was wounded.
