Putin had the chance (several times) to finish off Kiev and send the government packing back to Lyiv where the Pols would invade, not to fight Russia, but to steal back the land what Stalin stole from them. Tourism should be up and running again along the new Russian coastline once called Ukraine. WTF are you doing, Putin?
I look at that and see a bad border war where nothing has really intruded into the Russian heartland. Start shooting missiles at Moscow and actually hitting it, or give yoocranes something that they can do it with, and we'll re-evaluate.
And from the Russian point of view, why wouldn't they continue to let the West pour money into this money pit? Idk how much this is costing Russia, but it seems the West is the party who is burning vast sums of cash.
It has also provided inroads for Russia and China to move the world away from the dollar as the reserve currency.
