It is not entirely about fashion. In fact, most watch nuts deride clothing brand watches as “fashion watches.” A watch is a tiny machine around your wrist. Some watch collectors are mostly fascinated with the movements inside the watches and have an encyclopedic knowledge of them and how they correspond to specific models.
IMO watch collectors are very similar to car enthusiasts.
