Don't forget global cooling in the 70's, 'We're heading for an ice age', Peak oil, CFC.s from fridges and air conditioners creating holes in the ozone in the 80-90s, 'The Greenhouse effect'.

My 2 cents..

None of it is true, but it gets them what they need. Control.

With that, they can do what they want. And what do the rich and powerful want? To live longer and be vital enough to enjoy it. That is the thing that has always frustrated the rich and powerful. They become old and die.

They seek the fountain of youth and immortality. The always have.
