Spoiler, they have been lying, like usual. A year or two ago they claimed it was melting faster than it ever has. Now all of a sudden its slowing down and some articles claim it has started recovering as well.

For those not old enough to remember, it was all supposed to be gone by the 1980s...

Yup. By 2000, it was going to be 110 in January and you could tour old NYC by boat, looking at the tops of buildin....hmmm, perhaps that wasn't such a bad future?
