I found this article interesting, mostly because I love whisky. I was initially surprised I hadn't even heard of most of them. So I started looking them up and reading what people had to say. The best reviews were essentially "I'll enjoy the rest of the bottle but it won't be replaced." Most of my collection is like this: I enjoy the whisky, but not enough to buy more of it.

Mostly, these whiskies were cheap.

My goto cheap whisky is Ballentines. But with so many other whiskies out there, I don't keep it on my shelf.

While reading reviews of the whiskies, I ran across a mention of "Amrut". This is also an Indian blend. It may be worth trying that one.

Here, I'm throwing in this review in because of the prose (malt-review.com).

Another entertaining review (bestshotwhiskyreviews.com)

Enjoy.

I see the streetshitter offerings occasionally, and the proprietor at a shop I frequent has attempted to steer me towards them. I continue to decline them, because there are myriad high quality offerings from known regions where I'm confident my money will be well spent. I also drink much less than I used to, and tend to stick to known quantities.

An exception: There's been an explosion in the number of craft distilleries in the US. Almost universally, they'll crank out gin, vodka and maybe a slightly aged rum initially to get income flowing. But again almost universally they're casking bourbon to age for a half dozen years - because that's where the money is. But what's flying under the radar mostly are all the rye whiskeys being made. Lots of garbage out there, but there are some lovely prospects out there too.

Dumbed into one such in Jacksonville, FL several years ago (Manifest Distilling), and have enjoyed sampling their produce through time. The straight rye they make has really blossomed, but their 100% rye whiskey is exceptionally tasty!

Thanks for the tip. I'm in that area frequently. I'll stop by.

Their current line up (manifestdistilling.com).

I am surprised that a boutique distillery like that has so many different products.

Ballantine's 17 is pretty solid. I typically like to have a lagavulin 16 sitting on the shelf.

The ballantines really the only one I’ll drink off that list….

India has a massive population, so I would assume most of the sales are domestic rather than exports.
