I know the word 'seceding' and its meaning and I was not intending to use it here. I was saying that 'succeeding' also applies in OP's title, as in Texas was punished for trying to be successful. Perhaps you didn't read things carefully before you attempted to educate me on a word I did not use. Reading comprehension is still important, even on the internet.
