I'm not expecting an answer - i'm just thinking this through and it seems her parents had to be both poorer than shit and either totally immoral or simple minded to be ok with her going off to live with a new, rich 'mommy'.
and something about this set up reminds me of certain girls in the shitty neighborhood I grew up in, their birth family dynamics, how they were hooking and/or stripping by age 19. when i found out, i was disappointed in their chosen professions but now i wonder how much of a choice they had.
