It's not wasted if you feed it to your chickens who then make eggs with them. You can and must give them back the eggshells that they will eat too. Potato skin is ok in some preparations but not ideal in many others. Carrot peels are not tasty in bigger carrots.
No there is not.
Vegetables and starches should only be eaten for how much they can add to a meal regarding taste and texture. They are nothing more than a vehicle for other foods.
You should be getting 100% of your needed vitamins and minerals from meat.
The presence of both cutters and grinders in my mouth says otherwise.
I don't peel carrots or potatoes. And I eat orange peel.
I eat peanut shells
Salted ones, yep. And the sunflower seed hulls. Basically I am maximizing my glyphosate consumption.
I can't do the sunflower seeds. I get them shelled
Eating peanut or sunflower seed shells can cause intestinal blockage. I know someone who went through that. You do not want to, trust me.
lol I kid, I kid
But mashed potatoes should be the exception. If you don't peel those you are a savage lol.
I don't understand peeling humans. That's a lot of calories and nutrition wasted.
Potatoes are loaded with nutrients and a great source of potassium. Most of these nutrients are in the skin.
There's not much nutrition in potato skins, but there is solanine, which is toxic. There's not really enough in them to do much, but frying or cooking the skins can concentrate it and potentially injure those who are sensitive to it.
Compost the skins or feed them to animals that aren't affected by the toxin.
The texture is all wrong, plus it's a myth that the peel has a lot of nutrition.
We've always just washed, cut, and cooked both. Sans cut on the baked potato though.
Yep
Roasted little potatoes (any variety) with skins are incredible!
Roasted carrots with skins are fabulous!
Big Baked Potatoes with sour cream, Yum! And the leftover skin with butter, salt and pepper is delicious.
They may not have a lot of nutrition, but I think they are tastier baked/roasted.
Yep!
Glycoalkaloids are the primary toxin in potatoes. White potatoes are a nightshade and most of the associative anti-nutrients are concentrated in the skin. So, if your going to consume them, peel them first and feed the skins to the chickens or the compost heap.
