Officially known as IEEE 1394, the FireWire standard was developed by Apple in collaboration with other tech companies, including Sony and Panasonic.

Hate being that guy, but Linux still and probably always will support it. Also, I don't actually hate being that guy.

Linux probably will, and Windows will probably for some time as well, assuming there are devices capable of being installed under 11+ that are available.

Linux will definitely keep it. Linux can still use 360k floppy disks. Maybe older.
