My last job had problems with half of the shift trying to take vacation days after the Superbowl, and various other big TV events. Eventually, they just stopped approving vacation for those days, and these people would just skip work anyway. These people were obviously called up and told not to come back.

I've got sympathy for a lot of reasons to skip work. Even the occasional hangover. TV though... these are just shit people lol.
