I always ask the following questions whenever I get into it with someone over the media:
- Have you ever been present for an unexpected newsworthy event that later appeared in the media (e.g., a riot, a shooting, a robbery, etc.)?
- Was the reporting accurate?
The answer to #2 has always been a "no." That's when I ask, "so why do you believe that their reporting on anything else would be accurate?"
