People die of heatstroke in southern Europe, that's normal. In huge numbers, that's also normal. What has maybe changed ist that the electricity bills are so high now that many air-conditioners get switched off.

A few thousand die of heatstroke every summer and sometimes it's more than that. For example 14,800 deaths in France caused by a heatwave in August 2003, 60% excess mortality.
