The US State Department is funding a program that trains Bulgarian journalists as Russian citizens. The $150,000 programs are scheduled to start in October. This becomes clear from the published notice in the register of federal contracts and orders from the United States. The duration of training is from six months to one year.
"The US Department of State, through the American Embassy in Sofia, is announcing an open competition for organizations that can apply for the implementation of the program to promote the development of independent media in Bulgaria as part of the training of journalists and journalism students," the competition notice says. The collection of documents ended a month ago.
The program aims to " strengthen journalistic resilience against Russian disinformation and manipulation in Bulgaria. The grantee will conduct trainings and seminars for journalists and journalism students from all over Bulgaria, including influential regional journalists outside the capital to detect and defend against Russian disinformation in traditional and online media. The purpose of these trainings is to help journalists to identify and verify the facts of the flow of disinformation coming from Russian sources.
