They cant stop China. How the hell would they stop the US?

With china

"It is the military’s obligation to defend Taiwan and we will not tolerate any others blowing up our facilities," he said, according to The South China Morning Post.

If they really need to they'll do it themselves

This is a public comment to save face. Fact is the US owns the IP and it is considered essential to national security and a threat to that security is letting a global peer competitor steal it. No way in hell we would let the Chinese take those factories. They are getting blown and if some politician needs to bend the truth for votes, it won’t change a thing.

It's not a politician saying that statement, it's the military

What would the US do if, for some reason, taiwan said fuck it we go with china now?

How do you think this will pan out?

[–] 1 pt

It’s our IP. Imagine thinking we are giving them the choice to let China steal it.

TSMC is building a massive facility in Phoenix to prepare for the inevitability of invasion.

That facility will only generate a small % of TSMC overall output. New Fabs take a lot of time to build and qualify, especially this type of bleeding edge fab. There will be a WW small geometry chip shortage if China takes Taiwan.

Yep. This was (ostensibly) the impetus for the C.H.I.P.S. Act and why every corporation with silicone in the game is cranking out and ramping up new Fabs as fast as they get the walls up. Especially as there is a pile gibs dinero on the table.

Honestly who cares. The world can do with fewer chips.
